Background and purpose of establishment

In accordance with ‘Article 76, Clause 1 of the Local Public Enterprises Act’ and ‘Ordinances of establishment and operation of the Seoul Facilities Corporation,’ it was established as the first regional corporation in Korea on September 1, 1983 for the purpose of [contributing welfare promotion among the citizens through effective management and operation of facilities that are designated by the Mayor of Seoul Metropolitan Government].

At the time of its establishment, SFC executed toll roads and paid parking lot management starting from the administration of the underground shopping centers and stores that were situated underground of Eulji-ro, the subway line no. 2. After that, it consecutively took charge of big-scale projects in keen relationship with the lives of the Seoul citizens, such as construction of the Seoul Children's Grand Park (1986) and funeral business (1987) and in 1990s, it expanded its scope from small to big areas including construction and management of the urban expressway (1994) and utility-pipe conduit (1995).

In 2000s, it served the citizens through the supervision of small-scale constructions (2000), traffic information service (2001), special transport service for the handicapped (2003), and so on and as it took over and started managing the major symbolic infrastructures of Seoul, such as the Seoul World Cup Stadium (2001), Cheonggyecheon (2005), and Seoul Memorial Park (2011), it developed as the best facility-specialized public corporation representing Korea.
